Enabling homecare
It’s common to lose confidence and feelings of independence following an illness, injury, or diagnosis. Our enabling homecare services are designed to enhance feelings of autonomy and build positive wellbeing wherever possible.
We’ll be there to support, encourage, and connect with you or your loved one as they take control of their daily routines once again.

How we deliver our homecare services
We know how important flexibility is to both our service users and their loved ones. This is why we build offer a range of care delivery methods, including:
Day homecare
Day homecare is where we provide our services during the day. We find that this is a popular option for those who live alone, have limited mobility, or require assistance with managing day-to-day tasks.
Overnight homecare
Overnight homecare is where we offer reassurance and professional assistance throughout the night. This can include sleep-in care arrangements as well as waking night services.
This is particularly beneficial for anxious service users who generally wake or those who require support throughout the night.
Couples’ homecare
We believe that no couple should ever have to live apart due to their care requirements. Our couples’ homecare service allows partners to stay together while receiving a high standard of individual care, guided by separate personal care plans.
Our homecare services can also be extended, reduced, or combined to suit personal preferences and requirements.

How to make a referral to Helping Hands
We understand that the transition to homecare can feel daunting, whether you’re the service user or a family member. We aim to make the referral process as simple and stress-free as possible for all involved, so you or your loved one can get the level of care they deserve.
The three-step guide below outlines how our homecare services work and how to refer someone to Helping Hands for homecare in Northumberland.

Step one: Contact your nearest Helping Hands branch
To begin the process, simply call, email, or fill in the contact form for your nearest Helping Hands branch. A member of our team will be in touch as soon as possible to answer any queries and arrange an initial assessment.
Step two: Home visit and care assessment
Our at-home care assessments are free of charge and are completely no-obligation.
This is an opportunity for our visiting carers to meet the service user in the comfort of their home, alongside any loved ones and family members if preferred.
We’ll ask a few questions to assess care needs and note down any personal preferences, requirements, or goals. This is also an excellent opportunity for the service user and any loved ones to voice their opinions so we can offer reassurance and answer any questions.

Step three: Approve your bespoke care plan
Following the at-home assessment, we’ll use all of the information provided to build a fully tailored care plan.
This is a comprehensive, living document that guides our care. It typically includes:
- The homecare services required
- Chosen delivery methods
- Preferred visitation timings
- Carer allocations
- Any useful information to support our personalised care approach
Once the care plan has been reviewed and approved, we can start providing our services.

“My carers have become an integral part of my routine, always going the extra mile to make me comfortable.”
